MWC 2015: Qualcomm to fuel Mercedes AMG Petronas to improve race speed

Wireless chip vendor Qualcomm today said it will power Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team to improve race speed.

As per the sponsorship deal, the two companies will develop new connected car technologies to enhance the team’s on-track performance, utilizing Qualcomm’s expertise in mobile as the foundation for development.

Qualcomm and Mercedes AMG Petronas will focus on improving race speed and vehicle reliability, as well as operational and power efficiencies. Technology projects will target real-time data transmission, sensor networks and wireless charging integration.

“With Mercedes-Benz leading the motorsports circuit, this collaboration provides a testing ground for new technology advancements,” said Derek Aberle, president of Qualcomm.

Qualcomm is already involved in more than 40 initiatives with automakers and suppliers to develop new technologies for improved connectivity, safety, navigation, infotainment and Qualcomm Halo technology for wireless electric vehicle charging.
