The company said MediaTek Helio P22 is the first to bring the 12nm manufacturing process to the mid-range mobile segment.

Vivo and Oppo, two leading smartphone companies from China, have utilized MediaTek Helio P60, which was introduced earlier, for their device launches in India and China. The company expects there will be more customer wins for MediaTek Helio P22.

Recently, Vivo selected Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor for the launch of Vivo V9 Youth – priced at INR 18,990 in India.

MediaTek has started the volume production of Helio P22 chipset. The new chipset will be available in consumer devices by the end of Q2 2018. The company did not reveal the name of the clients from the smartphone vendor community.

Some of the Indian smartphone vendors including Micromax, Lava, Karbonn, among others, are active in the mid-priced smartphone segment. The target will also be on LG, Samsung, Xiaomi, Gionee and Huawei-brand Honor for the supply of MediaTek Helio P22 chipset.

“We expect device maker wins and consumer growth in this segment with MediaTek’s new Helio P22 chipset,” TL Lee, general manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communication business unit, said.

MediaTek has built the Helio P22 chipset with TSMC 12nm FinFET technology, which is the most power efficient manufacturing processing brought to Android smartphones with MediaTek’s CorePilot technology, allowing for sustainable high performance and power savings.

Helio P22 also supports connectivity on dual 4G SIM cards. Telecom operator such as Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Reliance Jio are looking for dual 4G SIM smartphones for their 4G customers on the LTE network.

The chipset’s octa-core Arm Cortex A53 processors operate up to 2.0 GHz and offer high CPU performance while requiring low power inputs.

Users of MediaTek Helio P22 chipset will benefit from Edge AI enhancements powered by MediaTek NeuroPilot. The company claims that Helio P22 delivers the benefits of AI at a remarkably affordable price.

AI accelerated camera experiences including Face ID, smart photo album and single-camera as well as dual-camera depth of field features are all supported.

The Helio P22 brings hardware-driven dual-camera support for 13+8 megapixel setups at a fast 30 frames per second (FPS). The chipset is equipped to minimize grain, noise, aliasing, chromatic aberration and more; enabling crisp and clear images under varying lighting conditions.

Smartphone users can enjoy the fast LTE connectivity on both SIM cards, and 802.11ac WiFi for high Internet speed. MediaTek Helio P22 also supports BT5.0, the latest version of the Bluetooth wireless communication standard, and a 4-Satelltie system GNSS allows for faster, more efficient and more accurate connectivity.
