TSMC, Samsung Foundry, UMC, GlobalFoundries and SMIC are the leaders in the global semiconductor foundry market in Q4 2022, according to a report from Counterpoint Research.
TSMC market share saw significant growth through 2022 as it continued to dominate the foundry semiconductor market.
Driven by strong 5/4nm wafer output, TSMC continued to gain global semiconductor market share through Q4 2022 with key competitors flat or declining.
Global logic foundry industry sales posted 27 percent growth in 2022, but softening consumer demand along with high IC inventories bring substantial risks in 2023.
“We expect the global foundry semiconductor revenues to decline by 5 percent-7 percent in 2023 and we expect average capacity utilization rates fall this quarter to around 75 percent of 2022 levels,” Counterpoint Research said.
Though TSMC’s business in H1 2023 will be negatively impacted by inventory adjustment cycles, the company will slow down expansion in advanced nodes or overseas facilities.
