Strategy Analytics today revealed that the global tablet Applications Processor (AP) market fell 34 percent to $889 million in H1 2016.

Apple, Qualcomm, Intel, MediaTek and Samsung LSI captured the top-five revenue share rankings in the tablet AP market in H1 2016. Apple led the tablet AP market with 35 percent revenue share, followed by Qualcomm with 18 percent and Intel with 13 percent.

ARM-based tablet APs increased their share to 89 percent in H1 2016 from 83 percent. Intel’s tablet AP shipments halved in H1 2016 as the company shifted its focus away from Atom-based low-end Android tablets and towards Core-based tablets. Windows-based tablets accounted for the majority of Intel’s tablet AP shipments.

Baseband-integrated APs accounted for one-third of total tablet AP shipments.

Qualcomm, MediaTek and Spreadtrum represented over 80 percent of total baseband-integrated tablet AP shipments and Intel’s recent decision to de-emphasize integrated APs will benefit these three vendors in the next few quarters.
