TrendForce: Global AR Glasses Shipments to Hit 600,000 Units in 2025, Surge to 32.1 Million by 2030

The global augmented reality (AR) glasses market is set for strong growth in 2025, according to TrendForce’s latest report, “2025 Near-Eye Display Market Outlook and Technology Analysis.” The research highlights increasing activity from international brands, falling OLEDoS panel prices, and Meta’s anticipated launch of its Celeste AR glasses, all of which are accelerating adoption.

AR Market Growth Outlook

  • 2025 shipments: 600,000 units

  • 2030 shipments: 32.1 million units

While China currently dominates AR shipments, its market share is expected to fall to 50.2 percent by 2030, as global tech giants like Meta and Google enter the space with advanced products and ecosystems.

AI and Specification Standards Drive Adoption

AI integration is reshaping consumer demand for AR glasses by enabling more intelligent applications and driving industry-wide standardization of specifications. TrendForce notes that brands are now setting strict requirements for optical engines, including:

  • Power consumption under 300 mW

  • Volume smaller than 1 cc

  • Weight below 3 grams

Although these requirements add complexity, they foster convergence across designs, improving compatibility and creating a foundation for economies of scale.

Display Technology Trends

At present, mainstream LEDoS and LCoS panels in AR glasses measure 0.13–0.18 inches with pixel densities above 5,500 PPI.

  • LEDoS resolutions: 640×480 to 720×720

  • LCoS resolutions: 720×720

Future designs are expected to further standardize CMOS substrates, balancing performance and cost as mass production ramps up.

Lower Costs, Wider Adoption

While standardization could limit brand differentiation, it allows manufacturers to reduce costs, refine pricing strategies, and make AR glasses more accessible. Falling prices are expected to boost adoption, creating a virtuous growth cycle in the AR ecosystem.

Major Players Accelerate Ecosystem Maturity

The report highlights the active participation of global tech leaders and suppliers in driving AR innovation:

  • Meta and Google are investing heavily in consumer AR devices.

  • Key suppliers such as LUMUS, Goertek, JBD, Xreal, and Omnivision are strengthening the AR supply chain.

This collaboration is expected to accelerate ecosystem development, laying the groundwork for tens of millions of annual shipments by 2030.

Conclusion

The AR glasses industry is transitioning from niche adoption to mainstream growth, fueled by AI-driven applications, cost reductions, and ecosystem investments. With shipments projected to reach 32.1 million units by 2030, AR glasses are positioned to become a key pillar in the next wave of wearable and immersive technologies.
