Samsung tops smartphone market share, Nokia second in overall phone biz in Q2

Samsung is leading the smartphone market share, while Nokia is in second position in overall phone biz in Q2, said IDC.

IDC on Friday revealed top 5 smartphone vendors’ market share list and overall phone vendor list for the second quarter of 2013. Samsung tops both the list.

Samsung shipped 72.4 million smartphones in Q2. It shipped 113.4 million phones in the second quarter.

Apple is in the second rank in smartphone market share list. Nokia took second position in overall phone category.

LG, Lenovo and ZTE are the other top smartphone vendors.

IDC said several phone vendors, including Alcatel and Huawei, had high double- and triple-digit growth rates in the second quarter for their Android-based offerings shipped to countries such as China and India. In Q2, these vendors from outside the Top 5 accounted for 44.8 percent of the overall shipment volume, up from 42.2 percent in the same quarter one year ago.
