OPPO leads in Indonesia smartphone market as Xiaomi lost share: IDC

Indonesia’s smartphone market dropped 14.3 percent to 35 million units in 2022 — declined for the first time after 13 years of growth, according to IDC.

The decline in Indonesia’s smartphone market completely wiped out growth from the past three years, as market size came down to 2018 – 2019 levels.

In 4Q22, Indonesia’s smartphone market declined 17.6 percent YoY and rose 3.9 percent quarter over quarter (QoQ) growth, reaching 8.5 million units. The quarterly growth was mostly driven by product releases and promotional efforts.

“Looking ahead, IDC is expecting 2023 to be flat, or at best, experience low single-digit growth amidst the world’s battle against inflation, exchange rate movements, geopolitical tensions, and monetary policies,” says Vanessa Aurelia, Associate Market Analyst at IDC Indonesia.

OPPO is the leader in the Indonesia smartphone market as Xiaomi lost share, IDC said. Oppo has enhanced its Indonesia smartphone market share to 22.4 percent in 2022 from 20.8 percent in 2021. Xiaomi has lost Indonesia smartphone market share to 14.2 percent in 2022 vs 19.8 percent in 2021.

Samsung has enhanced its Indonesia smartphone market share to 21.7 percent in 2022 from 17.6 percent in 2021. Vivo has also lost its Indonesia smartphone market share to 17.9 percent in 2022 from 18.1 percent in 2021. Realme has also lost its Indonesia smartphone market share to 11.8 percent in 2022 from 12.2 percent in 2021.
