Nokia and Airtel veteran Vineet Taneja to head Samsung mobile biz

Telecom Lead Asia: Nokia and Airtel veteran Vineet Taneja is the new country head of Samsung India’s Mobile & Digital Imaging Business.

Samsung is India’s #1 mobile phone maker by market share in 2012.

Taneja replaces Ranjit Yadav, who quit in September last year to join Tata Motors.

Prior to joining Samsung, Vineet was the operations director, South India and Sri Lanka at Bharti Airtel at the time of leaving the company in February 2013.

At Airtel, he was responsible for managing mobile, fixed line voice, DSL and DTH (Digital TV) at Airtel for South India and Sri Lanka.

He successfully lead Airtel’s 3G launch and data business for Airtel in its key geographies of South India.

He also successfully led the Bharti Airtel business in Sri Lanka over the past 18 months.

Prior to Airtel, Vineet was the chief marketing officer for Nokia India between January 2008 to April 2010.

 

At Nokia India, Vineet managed the devices portfolio and launch program management and also headed the services and software business unit. He successfully drove the mobile multimedia consumption in India and built a robust sales & channel base to market Nokia’s multimedia products and solutions across the country. He was also responsible for putting in place strong strategy to hasten the adoption of emerging mobile multimedia technologies and expanding the market share for Nokia’s Multimedia products and solutions across key domains such as Music, Imaging, Internet, Media, Applications and Mobile Enhancements.

He has also held multiple senior positions at Hindustan Lever, his last one being vice president for the company’s Tea Business at the time of leaving Hindustan Lever in 2005.
