Telecom Lead Asia: Immersion Corporation announced that
Fujitsu’s Raku-Raku smartphone uses Immersion’s TouchSense 5000 embedded
control software combined with a piezo actuator to create HD Haptic effects.
Haptics is the study of touch. Haptic effects (also known
as touch or tactile feedback) are produced by actuators, such as motors, which
are built into devices to create vibrations.
The recently launched smartphone also includes Immersion
Integrator software. The smartphone is designed to create an easy-to-understand
user interface targeted toward users looking for an intuitive smartphone
design.
Explaining the technology, Dennis Sheehan, Immersion VP
of marketing said that Immersion’s HD Haptics have the fastest response time
and the broadest range of sensations available in the smartphone market.
Due to fastest response time, Immersion claims that the
smartphones haptic effects are crisp, precise and very realistic.
With 20 million units, Fujitsu Raku-Raku phone line
features customized Android interface, which is designed with large,
easy-to-navigate icons and streamlined functionality.
The Raku-Raku samrtphone is currently available through
NTT DOCOMO in Japan.
Kaoru Chujo, general manager & vice president of
Fujitsu Mobile Phone Division said that Immersion’s HD Haptic technology
complements Fujitsus unique touch panel design to create a user experience that
gives our consumers confidence and an easy-to-use interface.
Immersion TouchSense 5000 embedded software drives a
piezo actuator to provide premium haptic effects, while Immersion’s Integrator
software incorporates haptics throughout the UI, including keypads and buttons.
