Viasat to Launch ViaSat-3 F2 Satellite on ULA Atlas V in October to Double Global Bandwidth Capacity

Viasat announced that its ViaSat-3 Flight 2 (F2) satellite is scheduled to launch aboard a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V551 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, in the second half of October 2025.

The ViaSat-3 F2 satellite, equipped with advanced technology to maximize efficiency and performance, will deliver more bandwidth than Viasat’s entire current fleet combined. This milestone marks a key step in Viasat’s multi-orbit network strategy to meet growing demand for resilient satellite communications across commercial mobility and defense markets.

Expanding Capacity for Global Connectivity

Once operational, ViaSat-3 F2 will join the company’s constellation designed to provide:

Substantial bandwidth economics

High flexibility to concentrate capacity in demand hotspots

Reliable service virtually anywhere on land, at sea, or in the air

“ViaSat-3 F1 is already delivering outstanding performance for our airline customers, and ViaSat-3 F2 will significantly scale performance, capacity, and density of users,” said Mark Dankberg, Chairman and CEO of Viasat. “This satellite will enhance network efficiency, coverage, and user experience, while enabling new connectivity services and business models.”

Driving Growth and Financial Strength

Viasat CFO Gary Chase highlighted the company’s strong financial momentum:

Record revenues and new contract awards in FY2025

A focus on building earnings power and reducing capital intensity

Plans to generate sustained and growing free cash flow from FY2026 onward

“We’re excited to be realizing this milestone toward doubling Viasat’s bandwidth capacity,” Chase added.

Why the Launch Matters

The upcoming ViaSat-3 F2 mission comes at a time of rapidly rising demand for global connectivity, particularly in aviation, defense, and mobility markets. By adding unprecedented satellite capacity and flexibility, Viasat is positioning itself as a leader in next-generation satellite internet and in-flight connectivity services.
