Eutelsat partners with Airbus to expand OneWeb LEO satellite

Eutelsat Group has selected Airbus Defence and Space to build the next generation of its OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation. The initial extension will include 100 satellites, with deliveries scheduled to begin by the end of 2026.

Eutelsat CEO Eva Berneke

The new satellites will feature advanced capabilities, including 5G ground integration.

They will be compatible with Europe’s IRIS2 constellation, slated to become operational in 2030, with Eutelsat serving as the primary architect and operator for its LEO segment.

The satellite expansion aligns with Eutelsat’s 2025 capital expenditure outlook and its long-term financial strategy, ensuring both continuity and innovation in service delivery.

Eutelsat CEO Eva Berneke said: “We are relying on our long-standing partner, Airbus, to begin building the first batches of the next generation of our OneWeb LEO constellation, which will ensure we deliver continuity of service of the existing constellation with enhanced service features.”
