Eutelsat Group has announced a $500 million agreement with Intelsat to bolster the OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Constellation.
The agreement, valued at up to $500 million over a span of seven years, with an initial commitment of $250 million, marks a substantial stride in satellite technology collaboration. This deal, set to commence in mid-2024, follows a precursor agreement of $45 million inked in March 2023.
Intelsat is poised to integrate OneWeb’s LEO Network with its Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) and terrestrial networks. This integration is expected to pave the way for comprehensive customer solutions catering to diverse sectors including networks, government, and mobility.
The collaboration is not only expected to foster innovation but also presents an opportunity for Intelsat to contribute to the development of the Next Generation OneWeb constellation, solidifying its position as a key player in shaping the future of satellite communication.
Dave Wajsgras, Chief Executive Officer of Intelsat, said: “Intelsat has leveraged our partnership with the Eutelsat to initiate our strategy of enabling multi-orbit solutions in the commercial aviation and government markets.”
Eva Berneke, Chief Executive Officer of Eutelsat Group, said: “This expanded partnership with Intelsat represents a vote of confidence in the capabilities of the OneWeb satellite constellation, showcasing the necessity for major satellite operators to be able to offer multi-orbit solutions to their customers.”
