O2 Activates Five 4G and 5G Small Cells in Tonbridge

O2 has activated five outdoor small cells in Tonbridge town centre as part of an investment to increase mobile network capacity and improve connectivity for customers. The new infrastructure supports both 4G and 5G services and was deployed by Freshwave on behalf of O2 in collaboration with Kent County Council. The small cells are designed to provide additional capacity in busy areas used by residents, businesses and visitors. The deployment was welcomed by Tom Tugendhat MP, who highlighted the importance of improved connectivity for the local community. The project forms part of O2’s broader network investment, using small-cell infrastructure to strengthen mobile coverage and capacity in urban locations.

Orange and Telesat Launch Europe’s First Lightspeed Gateway in France

Orange and Telesat have commissioned the first European gateway for Telesat Lightspeed, marking a key milestone in deployment of the company’s next-generation low Earth orbit satellite constellation. The gateway is hosted at Orange’s Tier-4 certified teleport in Bercenay-en-Othe, France, while Orange provides secure ground connectivity to Telesat’s planned point of presence in Paris. The infrastructure will support the initial deployment of 225 Telesat Lightspeed satellites and is designed to provide secure, reliable and low-latency connectivity for enterprise, telecom, government and defense customers. The gateway uses advanced antennas supplied by Intellian Technologies, while Telesat plans an initial global in-service date in the first quarter of 2028.

telMAX Secures $215 Million to Accelerate Ontario Fiber Network Expansion

Canadian fiber operator telMAX has secured $215 million in new growth financing to accelerate expansion of its all-fiber broadband network across Ontario. Funds managed by Hamilton Lane completed a $105 million structured investment, while Power Sustainable Infrastructure Credit, Palistar Capital and MidStar Capital increased telMAX’s existing credit facility by another $110 million. The financing will support telMAX’s strategy of extending 100 percent fiber-to-the-premises infrastructure into additional Ontario communities. The transaction is significant because independent fiber operators require substantial upfront capital for construction before subscriber revenues scale. telMAX positions its network around high-speed symmetrical connectivity, giving the company additional resources to compete with Canada’s established cable and telecommunications operators in expanding residential and business broadband markets.
