Today’s telecom news includes announcements on Ekinops, KBRO, Harmonic, Airoha Technology, MediaTek, among others.

Ekinops Lands Optical Network Opportunity with Tier-1 European Telco
Ekinops has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Tier-1 European telecom operator to deploy a large-scale, nationwide high-speed optical network. The agreement covers the supply of WDM-based optical transport equipment, the Celestis network management platform, and related software and professional services. The MoU reflects advanced-stage discussions and is expected to lead to a formal framework agreement in the coming months. The project is planned as a multi-year deployment, strengthening Ekinops’ position in delivering high-capacity optical networking solutions for major telecom operators.
Fiber Fast-Forward: KBRO Powers Next-Gen Broadband with Harmonic’s On-Demand Solution
Taiwanese operator KBRO is upgrading its broadband network using Harmonic’s fiber-on-demand solution, powered by the cOS virtualized platform, to deliver next-generation, multi-gigabit services. The approach enables targeted fiber deployment directly from existing infrastructure, eliminating redundant builds and aligning investments with demand. This strategy supports KBRO’s transition to XGS-PON technology, boosting network capacity and enabling cost-efficient, high-speed connectivity. The solution also complements its DOCSIS modernization efforts, allowing a flexible mix of fiber and cable networks.
Airoha Leads Global First in prplOS Fiber Breakthrough, Transforming Broadband Innovation
Airoha Technology, a subsidiary of MediaTek, has achieved a global first by commercializing prplOS based fiber broadband platforms, marking a major step in open source telecom innovation. After three years of collaboration with Tier 1 operators, the company successfully deployed two chipset platforms at scale by 2025, demonstrating strong real-world performance. Airoha is now the only silicon provider supporting all three major open source ecosystems OpenWrt, RDK B, and prplOS. The milestone addresses key industry challenges such as interoperability, low level API compliance, and stringent EU cybersecurity requirements, helping streamline development and improve compatibility across broadband networks.
