Sabesp, Vivo and IDEMIA Launch World’s Largest IoT Water Project with 4.4 Million Smart Meters in 14-Year Brazil Deal
Brazilian water utility Sabesp has partnered with Vivo and IDEMIA Secure Transactions (IST) to deploy what the companies describe as the world’s largest Internet of Things (IoT) initiative for smart water management. Under the 14-year strategic partnership, 4.4 million smart water meters will be securely connected across São Paulo City and São José dos Campos using Vivo’s connectivity network and IST’s eSIM IoT platform. The deployment is designed to improve water distribution efficiency, detect leaks faster, reduce water losses and strengthen sustainability through secure, resilient connectivity. The project also incorporates the latest GSMA SGP.32 eSIM IoT standard with advanced cryptographic capabilities to enhance long-term security and support large-scale digital transformation of Brazil’s water infrastructure.
