Airtel Brings Uninterrupted Mobile Connectivity to Kolkata’s Iconic Vidyasagar Setu

Bharti Airtel has become the first telecom operator to provide uninterrupted mobile coverage on Vidyasagar Setu, the vital bridge linking Kolkata and Howrah, ensuring reliable voice and data services for commuters. The project involved laying 1.3 km of fibre optic cable and installing network antennas on six poles to create zero drop zones across the bridge. Executed in collaboration with the West Bengal government, PWD, Police Traffic Department and HRBC, the initiative aims to enhance connectivity, safety, and traffic management. This marks a major step in improving commuter experience and network reliability on one of the region’s busiest bridges.

India Unleashes 6 GHz Spectrum for Licence‑Free Wi‑Fi Revolution

The Indian government has approved licence‑free use of the lower portion of the 6 GHz spectrum (5925–6425 MHz), allowing devices and networks using this band, crucial for next‑generation Wi‑Fi like Wi‑Fi 6E and Wi‑Fi 7, to operate without costly licences or auctions. Telecom operators had opposed the decision, arguing the band should be reserved for future 5G/6G mobile services, but the government sided with Big Tech and connectivity advocates. This policy marks a major step in enhancing internet speeds and connectivity for homes and businesses, supporting advanced applications such as high‑quality video, gaming, and AR/VR devices.

GoNetspeed Strengthens Manchester’s Digital Backbone with Major Fiber Expansion GoNetspeed has unveiled a significant expansion of its 100 percent fiber-optic network in Manchester, Connecticut, aimed at enhancing the city’s digital infrastructure. The company is investing over $1.6 million to extend high-speed connectivity to more than 5,000 additional homes and businesses. Construction is already underway as demand rises for faster and more reliable internet to support remote work, digital learning, and data-intensive services. The upgraded network will deliver symmetrical multi-gigabit speeds, offering improved performance and stability compared with legacy broadband technologies. With this rollout, GoNetspeed’s total investment in Manchester reaches $8.2 million, highlighting its continued focus on expanding fiber access across key U.S. markets.
