Airtel 3G reaches Tchad, plans Niger launch this fiscal

Bharti Airtel on Friday announced the launch of 3G services in Tchad.

Tchad is the 16th 3G market for Airtel Africa. The remaining 3G market will be Niger, where services will be launched during the fiscal year.

Airtel already has the widest 3G footprint in the Africa continent.

Airtel Tchad Managing Director Salia Gbane said: “Our 3G network will unleash the potential of our youth by providing quick access to internet for learning, sharing, social networks, creation and access to educational content.”

McKinsey & Co. says with about 400 million mobile subscribers in Africa, telecommunications is one of the continent’s fastest growing industries. The African telecom market is also seeing rapid growth in cellular phones, internet access, mobile banking and mobile commerce.
