MWC 2014: Ooredoo in wearable technology deal with Kopin

At the MWC 2014 (Mobile World Congress), Ooredoo and Kopin announced that they will develop hands-free headset computing technology and conduct research to expand the range of wearable technology.

The association will enable Ooredoo to provide hands-free mobile support for a number of public and private enterprises in Qatar, from aircraft maintenance to medical support, fire-fighting and disaster relief. This will be especially helpful as Doha will be aiming to become a Smart City ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Besides during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, new technology will also provide life-saving innovations for people of all nations, as it empowers fire-fighters, emergency workers and police through wearable technology.

Sheikh Abdullah, chairman, Ooredoo

Sheikh Abdullah, chairman, Ooredoo, said: “Our partnership with Kopin is designed to open new doors, particularly for the public safety and emergency sectors.”

Kopin’s headset computing reference designs enable people to access information, including schematics, instructions and diagrams, through voice commands and view them while keeping their hands free during work.

Ooredoo is Kopin’s latest partner to using its reference designs to create products with tremendous life-saving potential.

Kopin develops wearable computing technologies and solutions. Its portfolio includes ultra-small displays, optics, speech enhancement technology, software, low-power ASICs, and ergonomically designed smart headset concept systems.
