Telecom Lead America: Telecommunications
equipment provider Westell Technologies has launched new Ethernet switches
targeting telecom operators.
Telecom operators will benefit as the new ES7000 series of
managed Ethernet switches are flexible with configurations from 12 to 28 ports
and include Westell’s SiteVu Secure telemetry feature, Power over Ethernet
(PoE) and PoE+, as well as four gigabit ports that are UTP/SFP combinations.
Westell Technologies claims that the ES7028G model is
modular and field upgradable, allowing the user to add expansion slots to the
12-port base unit, resulting in a switch with options for 12, 14, 16, 20, 22 or
28 ports.
Moreover, it is packaged in a rugged galvanized steel
enclosure that allows for 1RU rack, wall or panel mounting. For applications
that require 12 ports or less, the ES7012 model provides all the same features
and functionality as the ES7028G model but in a compact form that is suitable
for backboard, DIN-rail or wall mounting.
Chris Shaver, senior vice president and general manager of
Westell Technologies, said the ES7000 series expands the range of applications
that can be cost-effectively addressed with Westell’s industrial Ethernet
switches.
The ES7000 series of Ethernet switches are designed to
handle stressful workloads in power utility substations, video surveillance
systems, and traffic control monitoring. These switches are ideal for
connecting edge devices such as SCADA telemetry radios, Programmable Logic
Controllers, and cameras with upstream switches or routers.
