Polycom announces RealPresence Mobile 3.0 and Desktop 3.0

Telecom Lead India: Polycom announced Polycom RealPresence Mobile 3.0 and Polycom RealPresence Desktop 3.0, video collaboration software applications for mobile devices and personal computers.

Polycom on Thursday said the new versions include better content-sharing capabilities and support across more devices from companies including Apple, LG, Samsung and Sony.

The RealPresence Mobile 3.0 software application for smartphones and tablets will be available in July as a free download from the Apple AppStore and from Google Play.

Polycom RealPresence Desktop 3.0 for Apple Mac OS X and Windows will also be available in July.

Polycom is expected to add more industry verticals to its business with this announcement.

“Organizations expect a great collaboration experience, whether they’re at headquarters, at home, with a customer or on the road – or for that matter in a school, a hospital, a court room, or a manufacturing plant,” said A.E. Natarajan, senior vice president of Worldwide Engineering, Polycom.

Polycom RealPresence Mobile 3.0 software lets customers extend the use of video collaboration beyond the conference room to connect tablets and smartphones (iOS and Android devices).

The new enhancement is a for more than a dozen devices. In addition, the app also includes far-end camera control.

Videoconferencing users can control video meeting functions such as volume, mute and start/stop with their tablets, and they can walk into a conference room while on a live mobile video call and transfer that call from tablet to big screen with the swipe of a finger.

In addition, the mobile and desktop solutions both deliver to customers H.264 High Profile support, which can reduce the bandwidth requirements for video conferencing by as much as 50 percent, substantially reducing network costs.
