PLX unveils 10-Gigabit Ethernet family

PLX Technology announced full production availability of
its TeraPHY TN8000 10GBase-T transceiver family. This PLX milestone ushers in a
fundamental shift in the global transformation of data center connectivity,
from Gigabit Ethernet to 10-Gigabit Ethernet performance.

The TeraPHY family is fabricated on a 40-nanometer lithography
node and consists of single-, dual- and quad-port integrated 10GBase-T
transceivers. Multiple PLX customers have tested and qualified these products.

With the market’s broadest 10GBase-T physical layer (PHY)
portfolio, PLX innovation enabled the industry’s first 10GBase-T equipment, and
the company today owns more than 60 percent market share for 10GBase-T PHY
devices.

PLX is presently shipping in volume 130nm, 65nm and 40nm nodes, while design has
already begun on its fourth-generation 28nm products.

We are very pleased to be able to offer designers
production-quality silicon that exceeds the performance requirements set forth
by the IEEE 802.3an standard,” said Ron Cates, PLX vice president of marketing,
networking products.

This achievement will enable many new 10GBase-T
networking products and represents a future-proofing footprint for designers
seeking our lower-power, feature-laden transceivers to be released later this
year,” Cates added.
