British telecom regulator Ofcom has published a consultation to revise the annual licence fees of mobile operators for using 900 and 1800 MHz spectrum.
The operators use 900 MHz and 1800 MHz spectrum to provide voice and data services using a mix of 2G, 3G and 4G technologies. BT-owned EE, Vodafone, Three UK, Telefonica owned O2, Talk Talk and Virgin are the main operators in the U.K.
Ofcom has provisionally concluded that mobile operators should pay 1.15 million per MHz of 900 MHz spectrum they hold and £0.908 million per MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum per year from April 2018.
Ofcom said consultation includes draft regulations that would implement the proposed fees on spectrum. The closing date for responses is 3 August 2018.
