Law firm selects Silver Peak for WAN optimization for moving into Cloud

Silver Peak Systems, a provider of data center class wide area network
(WAN) optimization, has been deployed by Thomson Snell & Passmore, a law
firm, to optimize its networks in order to support the firm’s migration to a
cloud-based infrastructure.

By deploying Silver Peak’s WAN optimization solution across both its
offices and hosted data center in Reading, Thomson Snell & Passmore has
simplified its network infrastructure and ensured a consistent desktop
experience across its offices.

Silver Peak enabled the company to migrate its legacy data to the new
infrastructure in a matter of days.

Faced with an outdated IT infrastructure, Thomson Snell & Passmore
decided to move house, effectively building a completely new infrastructure in
the cloud with Microsoft Office 10, SharePoint, and Pilgrim Systems Lawsoft
(PMS) all delivered via Citrix XenApps.

“Silver Peak’s WAN optimization solution is the perfect fit for our
company as it has allowed us to take full advantage of our cloud infrastructure
without having to invest in additional bandwidth or extra WAN capacity. In
addition, RDC got us up and running in the cloud weeks ahead of schedule, which
saved the company significant time and money,” said David Bennett, head of
information systems at Thomson Snell & Passmore.

The success of cloud initiatives is dependent on the underlying WAN
infrastructure, often plagued by bandwidth limitations, latency, and packet
loss. This can prevent some applications from functioning well in a cloud
environment, especially when delivered using virtual desktop infrastructure
(VDI) protocols.

In addition, it can make migrating to the cloud difficult when large
amounts of data must be moved. In the case of Thomson Snell & Passmore,
there are over 3.5 million documents, mailboxes, and records that needed to be
migrated.

“WAN optimization is fast becoming a necessity to support branch to
branch and data center traffic as more and more companies such as Thomson Snell
& Passmore choose to implement cloud services,” said Jason Evans,
managing director at Response Data Communications.

Silver Peak‘s WAN optimization
solutions employ real-time network optimization techniques to optimize cloud
deployments. This includes Network Acceleration to overcome WAN latency,
Network Integrity to correct packet delivery issues and prioritize time
sensitive traffic, and Network Memory to maximize WAN bandwidth utilization.
The result is maximum cloud performance across the widest range of applications
and WAN environments.

“This is an excellent example of how our solution can afford peace
of mind for companies who are increasingly relying on the performance of their
network infrastructure for business critical operations,” said Mike Betz,
vice president of EMEA sales at Silver Peak.
