IEE sunlight readable, rugged handheld displays withstand harsh field conditions

IEE, a provider of test support and fielding of human system interface
(HSI) display technologies for military, aerospace, industrial and retail
applications, announced the launch of rugged, sunlight readable and combat
proven military-qualified handheld control display units (CDUs).

The units feature integrated multi-mode backlighting that provides
sunlight readability and NVIS compatibility for enhanced viewing no matter how
dim or bright the lighting may be.  This enables precise visual access to
critical data.

The wide range of display sizes and resolutions from 4-line 2.8″
character displays up to full graphic displays and from 3.5″ QVGA to
7.0″-wide SVGA, provides exceptional design flexibility for the system
engineer. Typical equipment that uses IEE’s rugged CDUs include soldier- and
vehicle-mount equipment as well as in man-pack hand-held use.

IEE also offers fully-customized CDUs based on user requirements.
Functions such as integrated touch screen interface can be provided in
resistive, IR, SAW or multi-touch technologies.  The low power, high
performance reprogrammable microprocessor-based operation also enables
exceptional customization.

Browser-based versions of the CDUs access the web through a 10/100
Ethernet interface executing HTML 5.0, JAVA scripts, JAVA applets or other
methods.

Operating at a maximum altitude of 36,000 ft, the CDUs feature a
temperature range of -20 degrees C to +70 degrees C, with some units operating
down to -40 degrees C.  The units withstand transit shock and ground
mobile vibration of 0.04 g2/Hz from 20-2,000 Hz at 1 Hour/Axis as well as
submersion in up to 1 m of water for 2 hours.

IEE’s handheld devices meet a variety of military standards including
MIL-STD-461/462 for EMI/EMC requirements; MIL-STD-810, MIL-S-901 and
MIL-STD-167 for environmental factors; MIL-P-7788 for panel construction and
lighting; MIL-STD-3009 for NVIS and MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-1275 for power.
