Huawei deploys Freescale MSC8156 DSP in TD-SCDMA Base Stations

Telecom Lead Asia: Chinese telecom equipment maker Huawei
has deployed Freescale Semiconductor’s MSC8156 digital signal processor (DSP)
in its TD-SCDMA Base Stations throughout China.

The selection of MSC8156 DSP has allowed Huawei to
provide high-performance digital signal processing capabilities for a number of
TD-SCDMA base stations.

With the help of MSC8156 DSP, Huawei is able to deliver
scalable, low-cost, energy-efficient base stations.

Freescale claims that the MSC8156 DSP has played an
important role in Chinese carriers’ rapid adoption of Huawei’s successful
TD-SCDMA infrastructure equipment.

Chen Xi, chief technology officer of Huawei’s Wireless
Network Business Unit, said that Freescale’s product significantly improved
Huawei’s overall base station efficiency by providing highly efficient DSP
cores and accelerators.

Xi also said that Freescale’s products allow Huawei to
provide the industry’s highest number of TD-SCDMA carrier waves in a base
station and increased system flexibility.

The Freescale MSC8156 DSP is tuned for a range of
broadband wireless standards including TD-SCDMA.

It combines six DSP cores based on SC3850 StarCore
core technology, high throughput and standard compliant baseband accelerators
supporting the latest wireless standards.

Scott Aylor, general manager of Freescale’s Wireless
Access Division, said that Huawei’s broad adoption of the MSC8156 DSP has
resulted in world-class products from Huawei and successful deployment
initiatives from China’s top carriers.

Freescale semiconductor also provides RF power solutions
for cellular infrastructure equipment and has established a successful RF
technology collaboration with Huawei.

Huawei uses a broad array of Freescale QorIQ and
PowerQUICC communications processors optimized for its wireless infrastructure
applications.

Freescale to launch 28-nm QorIQ AMP series processors

A few months back, Freescale Semiconductor launched two
new QorIQ AMP series processors.

The new 28-nm QorIQ AMP T1042 and T2080 processors enable
manufacturers of advanced networking equipment to address increasingly
stringent energy, security and processing requirements.
