Motorola Mobility announced that Henan Cable, one of
China’s largest cable operators, has deployed the Motorola M3 Media Server for
both Video On Demand (VOD) and Network Digital Video Recording (nDVR).
Henan Cable’s new Motorola M3 Media Server deployment
provides a VOD content delivery network, enabling Henan Cable to offer its more
than 3.6 million subscribers a vast library of on demand content, as well as
provide those subscribers on demand access to live television through the nDVR
feature inherent within the M3 system.
“Henan Cable is a leader in the deployment of Video
On Demand services in China, and the Motorola M3 Media Server provides the
efficiencies and flexibility they’ll need to take their on demand services
offerings to the next level,” said Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president
and general manager, Network Infrastructure, Motorola Mobility.
The Motorola M3 Media Server allows Henan Cable to
centralize its growing library of movies, TV shows, music videos and other
content, and deliver it all based on a sophisticated analysis of show
popularity and edge caching of popular content to servers closer to the
subscribers.
Henan Cable plans to expand their VOD system on the
Motorola M3 Media Server later this year.
“Eliminating unnecessary costs and building greater
efficiency into our on demand service environment is a key goal of Henan
Cable’s. With Motorola we are doing this, while also providing our
customers the best possible on demand experience,” said Wang Daoyi, chief
technology officer, Henan Cable.
Having deployed more than a million video and audio
content streams around the globe, Motorola offers advantages in leading
technology, unparalleled on demand experience and a wealth of global expertise
for customers around the world.
The Motorola M3 Media Server family offers a solid-state
platform for the delivery of high value media across cable and IPTV set-tops,
PCs and mobile devices.
Motorola Mobility recently announced
that its flexible closed-loop statistical multiplexer (statmux) offers
bandwidth efficiency and video quality improvements of up to twenty percent.
The statmux incorporates the Motorola SE-6000 encoder
with Motorola’s perceptual video processing (PVP) and DM-6400 CherryPicker
application platform.
