General Dynamics bags $65 million order to enhance U.S. military’s wideband networking software

General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General
Dynamics, announced that it was awarded the Wideband Networking Waveform
Software In-Service Support contract by the U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare
Systems Center, to support, maintain and add new capabilities to the Wideband
Networking Waveform (WNW).

Part of the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) waveform
library, WNW provides the bandwidth capacity needed to move large amounts of
data through the U.S. military’s tactical network. The five-year, indefinite
delivery, indefinite quantity contract has a maximum potential value of $64.5
million if all options are exercised.

Software support and maintenance will increase
reliability and improve performance of WNW software thus increase capabilities
within the tactical network. Planned WNW enhancements include increased
scalability and throughput adding capability for commanders while on-the-move.

A waveform provides the transport of information through
a network including the physical signal, the protocols, the security and the
routing functions.

“The Wideband Networking Waveform does the heavy
lifting needed to quickly and efficiently move large amounts of data from the
core of the network to the tactical edge,” said Chris Brady, vice
president of Assured Communications for General Dynamics C4 Systems.

“The work done by General Dynamics will ensure this
waveform remains effective and relevant today and into the future, regardless
of which radio or communications device is using it,” Brady added.

General Dynamics C4 Systems is the prime contractor for
the JTRS Handheld, Manpack, Small Form Fit radio program.

Recently, General Dynamics C4 Systems was awarded
a contract from the Global Broadcast Service (GBS) Joint Program Office at
Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts for the production of approximately
1,500 Transportable Ground Receive Suites (TGRS) and 1,110 retrofit kits for
systems already in the field.

The competitively awarded, five-year indefinite delivery,
indefinite quantity contract has a total potential value of $900 million if the
maximum number of units is ordered.
