Globe Telecom has launched new OTT service in partnership with Japan’s Brastel, an international telco, offering affordable calling rates to Filipinos in Japan.
The co-branded OTT service will allow users to save up to 68 percent in calling rates. It will largely benefit Filipinos living in Japan with their family in their home country.
The launch further demonstrates the acceptability of OTT service in international markets. Telcos worldwide are increasingly turning to OTT services to address the demands from growing customer base.
The strategic partnership between Globe Telecom and Brastel started earlier this year. In their first partnership in the companies agreed to offer co-branded reloadable calling card for calls to Globe and TM numbers in the Philippines at a preferential rate.
Starting August 1, 2015, Globe and TM customers have access to affordable calls via Brastel’s 050 Free application with rates of just 10 yen per minute, from its current price of 32 yen per minute when calling from a mobile with 0091 prefix.
Globe eyes Japanese telecom market because of the Filipinos population. “The partnership with Brastel gives us an opportunity to offer good quality calls at superior rates and reach out to a bigger Filipino market in Japan,” said globe executive vice president and chief operating officer for International and Business Markets Gil Genio.
In near future, both telcos will continue to aggressively expand communication services between the Philippines and Japan.
Some projects in the collaboration include the availability of calls from Globe and TM mobile numbers to a Brastel 050 number and new chat and SMS services between Brastel 050 numbers and Globe and TM customers.
