Dell to acquire network security provider SonicWALL

Telecom Lead America: Dell is set to acquire SonicWALL, a
provider of advanced network security and data protection.

 

The company did not disclose the size of the deal.
SonicWALL has 130 patents, registered and pending, and develops all of its own
key security gateway intellectual property.

 

Dell revenue increases by 1 percent to $62 billion

 

Recently, Dell reported 1 percent increase in revenue for
the fiscal year 2012 at $62.1 billion. Revenue in the forth-quarter stood at
$16 billion, a 2 percent increase over the same period previous year. Dell
revenue from enterprise solutions and services was $18.6 billion for fiscal
year and $4.9 billion for Q4.

 

SonicWALL firewalls and unified threat management (UTM)
firewalls complement Dell’s security solutions portfolio.

 

SonicWALL expands Dell’s security portfolio, which
includes Dell SecureWorks security services, cloud security solutions and data
encryption solutions, and Dell KACE vulnerability and patch management.

 

The acquisition is part of Dell’s efforts to expand
enterprise solutions portfolio to offer customers a complete range of products
and solutions.

Dell Software Group.

 

Dell will be committed to delivering security solutions
using effective technologies and services from both Dell and from other providers.

 

More than 300,000 customers use SonicWALL security
solutions, including firewalls, secure remote access, email security, backup
and recovery, and policy, management and reporting.

 

SonicWALL solutions are deployed in large campus
environments, distributed enterprise settings, government, retail point-of-sale
and healthcare segments.

 

The company has a channel program with 15,000 resellers
providing global coverage. Dell plans to take the SonicWALL channel programs
and combine it with Dell’s PartnerDirect program to bring the best to channel
members. Likewise, Dell’s PartnerDirect members will be able to sell SonicWALL
solutions to meet their customers’ IT security needs.

 

SonicWALL has approximately 950 employees.
