Telecom Lead India: The
usage of employee owned smartphones and tablets used in the enterprise is on
surge and is expected to reach 350 million by 2017, compared to almost 150
million this year, according to Juniper Research.
The surge in BYOD trend represents almost 23 percent of the
total installed base of consumer owned tablets and smartphones.
The report said that the BYOD concept has been on surge as
employees become more accustomed to using their own mobile computing devices in
their jobs, and accessing corporate assets.
The increasing penetration of high end smartphones and
tablets including iPhones, iPads and Android devices combined with accessible
apps has been driving the BYOD concept.
The report found that the trend has been massively supported
by cloud based services.
Despite various advantages that the BYOD trend brings to
enterprise, it also poses potential security risks.
In absence of any form of security software loaded into
employee’s phones and smart devices, the report said that enterprises find
their materials unprotected.
Speaking on the BYOD trend, Nitin Bhas, author of this
report said that businesses need to create new end-user IT policies and address
the key security issues emerging.
While BYOD has become an inevitable trend for the enterprise,
businesses, new device management policies and security measures need to be put
in place, he added.
The report suggests that the public sector will be late
adopters of the BYOD in the market.
Region-wise, Western Europe will account for the highest
number of consumer owned devices within the enterprise.
