Pay TV subscriber base reached 1.05 bn in Q2 2017

Pay TV subscribers Q2 2017The Pay TV subscriber base globally reached 1.05 billion in the second quarter of 2017, according to the latest data published by Dataxis.

Pay TV companies have added 60 million Pay TV subscribers between the second quarter of 2016 and the second quarter of 2017 reaching 1.05 billion subscribers.

IPTV and linear OTT achieved quarter on quarter growth of 24 percent and 44 percent respectively. Linear OTT represents 1 percent of the total Pay TV market globally. Cable TV is showing a negative growth while DTH and DTT are stagnant.

Pay TV subscriber base grew 8 percent in Asia Pacific. China and India together have contributed 48 percent of the pay TV subscribers out of total global numbers for the second quarter of 2017.

North America’s Pay TV subscriber market is showing negative growth. All other regions have grown modestly between Q2 2016 and Q2 2017, showing a growth rate of 1 percent to 4 percent quarter on quarter for pay TV subscribers.
