Ericsson completes Microsoft’s Mediaroom and Telcocell acquisitions

Addition of Microsoft’s Mediaroom business enables Ericsson to become the largest IPTV middleware technology and solutions provider.

The acquisition of Telcocell complements Ericsson’s existing Business Support Systems product portfolio, Ericsson said on Thursday.

Microsoft’s Mediaroom IPTV platform has market share of around 25 percent, delivering services to almost 13 million households, and close to 24 million set top boxes.

“The acquisition places us even more securely at the heart of an exciting and highly innovative industry. IPTV subscribers alone are predicted to grow by more than 18 percent each year to reach 105 million subscribers and revenue of $45 billion by 2015,” said Per Borgklint, senior vice president and head of Business Unit Support Solutions, Ericsson.

400 people of the Mediaroom business unit will be integrated into the Ericsson group under the Business Unit Support Solutions, and will be called Ericsson Mediaroom.

Telcocell enables Ericsson to strengthen and further expand its consulting and systems integration capabilities in converged charging and billing in North America.

Ericsson will add approximately 200 consulting and systems integration professionals who will be integrated into Ericsson in North America.
