Broadcast digitization reaches 90% as daily installation of DTH grew to 8000 boxes from 2000 earlier

Telecom Lead India: Daily installation of DTH connections in 4 metro cities has gone up to 8000 Boxes per day from an average of about 2000 Boxes a few weeks back. This is primarily due to India’s Broadcast Digitization drive.

Meanwhile, the four metro cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata – have achieved 90 percent digitization considering both DTH and Cable homes.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Friday said Cable homes achieved 85 percent, while considering the DTH connections, digitization has gone up to 90 percent.

Mumbai has nearly achieved 100 percent digitization.

Delhi has achieved 88 percent digitization considering cable homes and DTH.

In Kolkata, cable homes and DTH have reached 82 percent digitization.

In Chennai, cable homes are showing 61 percent digitization and together with DTH, the percentage of digitization goes up to 85 percent.

There is a sharp increase in the number of Set Top Boxes being installed in the homes of people.

In the last few days, the average number of STBs installed has jumped to almost 50,000 boxes per day.
