ARRIS International today announced set-top box (STB) deals with Portugal Telecom and Telefonica.

Portugal Telecom has selected the ARRIS VIP5662EW Ultra-HD set-top, a wireless HEVC IP set-top, for its recently launched MEO 4K service in Portugal.

The ARRIS VIP5662EW, known as the MEOBox4k for MEO customers, delivers immersive Ultra High-Definition viewing experience using the latest Wi-Fi technology, as well as time-shift and DVR capabilities. The new set-top allows MEO to subscribers access MEO’s 4K content, through on-demand content and a 4K TV app.

“We selected the ARRIS VIP5662 as the centerpiece of our new MEO 4K service, because it combines ARRIS’s leadership in set-top design with future-ready 4K technology,” said Luis Nascimento, CSO-B2C at Portugal Telecom.

Meanwhile, Telefonica has selected ARRIS International to develop a range of new set-tops. The new platform follows a modular approach that leverages Telefonica’s scale to deliver video services to its subscribers.

The international set-top portfolio named Proteus will begin live roll-out in 2017 and will include set-tops supporting both wired and wireless, HD and UHD services, to be deployed with Telefonica’s satellite DTH, cable, and IPTV technologies.

“We’re strategically positioned to help service providers transform entertainment through the evolution of the set-top,” said Steve McCaffery, managing director of International Sales and Business Operations for ARRIS’s International Business Operations Group.
