Telefonica to deploy 100G optical network with Alcatel-Lucent

Telefonica will deploy a 100G optical network throughout the north-west, eastern and southern regions of Spain – in association with Alcatel-Lucent.

Alcatel-Lucent’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) platform will enable Telefonica to improve capacity of its regional networks to meet growing demand for Internet connectivity.

Alcatel-Lucent will supply DWDM solution with integrated OTN switching and aggregation to support traffic created by video and cloud applications.

The solution offered is based on converged 1830 PSS DWDM and OTN technology and 1350 Optical Management System (OMS).

The network has 8.8 Tbit/s of capacity and is ready to grow to 24 Tbit/s to transport the projected demands for mass video services.
