Brazilian broadband provider Oi has implemented Nokia’s Corteca software to manage Wi-Fi CPE devices in customer homes, marking the largest deployment in Latin America to date.
This move aims to enhance in-home connectivity by addressing common challenges like inconsistent coverage and dead zones that frustrate subscribers. Corteca enables Oi to monitor and optimize Wi-Fi performance remotely, reducing the need for technician visits.
Oi’s capital expenditure dropped 47.7 percent in Q2 2024, reflecting more selective commercial strategies and efficient resource allocation. Despite this, Oi Fibra, its fiber unit, added 10,000 new homes to its network, bringing the total to 4.1 million connected homes across Brazil. However, the unit’s revenue saw a slight decline of 0.4 percent quarter-over-quarter, totaling R$1.1 billion.
A significant portion of Brazilian households faces connectivity issues, even as service providers introduce multi-gigabit speeds. Oi aims to tackle these problems using Corteca, which offers enhanced visibility into customer networks and advanced tools for improving Wi-Fi remotely. Oi fiber has covered 296 cities.
Gustavo Brambila, CTO of Oi, emphasized the software’s role in boosting customer satisfaction, citing a rise in the company’s Net Promoter Score (NPS). Additionally, Corteca offers asset control features to track and deactivate stolen or misinstalled equipment. Nokia and Oi see this partnership as a way to enhance the customer experience and unlock new service opportunities.
