MTS offers free Wi-Fi to Rapid Metro users in Gurgaon, India

Indian telecom service provider MTS India (Sistema Shyam TeleServices) today announced free Wi-Fi services to Rapid Metro users in Gurgaon, Delhi NCR, India.

The company is promising internet speeds of up to 9.8 Mbps to 30,000 daily commuters of Rapid Metro.

MTS India CEO Dmitry Shukov says the company is committed to install more BTS to address consumer demands and boost MTS’ 3GPLUS network.

The company has already set up extra base stations to run its ambitious wireless Internet project, said Ashwani Khillan, CTO – MTS India.

MTS will monetize from additional demand for high speed broadband services, applications, etc. at a later stage. The free Wi-Fi option is available for six months. MTS has a revenue sharing agreement with Rapid Metro Gurgaon, said Ramachandra KV, COO, Delhi Circle – MTS India.

Its free Wi-Fi service coverage will be available on all trains running on the 5.1 Km long six station corridor connecting Sikanderpur Metro station, Cyber City, DLF Phase 2, DLF Phase 3 and Ambience Mall.

In addition to all Rapid Metro trains, MTS will provide free Wi-Fi access on four stations including Sikanderpur, IndusInd Bank Cyber City, Phase 2 and Micromax Moulsari Avenue.

MTS India is already offering Wi-Fi services in Bangalore airport.

The project is a major setback for telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices, etc.

For better customer convenience and to enable access to free internet, MTS has set up 5 kiosks on 4 Rapid Metro stations, two at Sikanderpur and one each at IndusInd Bank Cyber City, Phase 2 and Micromax  Moulsari Avenue – where commuters can procure Wi-Fi coupons. The kiosks will house latest MTS products including MBlaze dongles, MTS smartphones, feature Phones etc.
