India’s Multiplay Service Revenue Set for Steady Growth at 4.5% CAGR

India’s multiplay service market is projected to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.5 percent from 2023 to 2028, driven by household adoption of service bundles and enhancements in fixed network infrastructure, according to GlobalData.
Report on multiplay service revenue in IndiaThe recent GlobalData report, India Multiplay Forecast (Q1 2024), highlights that in 2023, doubleplay service bundles dominated the market, making up 80.9 percent of total multiplay households. This was followed by tripleplay bundles at 10.2 percent, and quadplay bundles at 8.9 percent.

Doubleplay bundles, which typically combine broadband and telephony services, are expected to remain the most popular category throughout the forecast period. Major telecom operators like Airtel, Jio, and BSNL are actively promoting these bundles with unlimited telephony and fiber broadband plans.

Investment in fiber-optic network expansion has significantly enhanced access to high-quality broadband services across India, enabling telecom providers to develop and market multiplay bundles more effectively. These providers are offering discounts and incorporating value-added services, such as access to over-the-top (OTT) applications, to attract and retain subscribers.

Reliance Jio emerged as the market leader in multiplay households in 2023, followed closely by Bharti Airtel. The major service providers are leveraging complementary access to OTT applications to boost the adoption of multiplay bundles.

For instance, Jio’s postpaid JioFiber plan, priced at approximately INR599 ($7) per month for a year, includes 30Mbps internet speed, access to over 800 TV channels, and subscriptions to popular OTT platforms like DisneyHotstar, SonyLIV, Zee5, ALTBalaji, Eros Now, and JioCinema.
