The investment in modernization aims to enhance user experience by delivering internet speeds of up to 10Gb/s while improving Cellcard’s network. Cellcard will strengthen its competitive position in the market and meet the growing demands of its customers for high-capacity broadband services by adopting XGS-PON technology.

Cellcard will implement Nokia’s Lightspan Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) and the Altiplano Access Controller across key locations, including Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and other major cities in Cambodia. The Altiplano Access Controller, a cloud-native platform, will provide Cellcard with comprehensive network management and software-defined networking (SDN) control capabilities, allowing for greater automation and service optimization.

The deployment of Nokia’s Lightspan access nodes will ensure that Cellcard’s network is future-ready, capable of evolving to 25G PON in response to increasing data demands. This transition will not only enhance broadband performance for existing users but also prepare the infrastructure for future innovations in digital connectivity.

Asitha De Costa, ICT Division CIO at Cellcard, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering a superior network experience, especially as digital consumption continues to rise. He highlighted how customers increasingly depend on reliable broadband for both personal and professional activities.

By partnering with Nokia for the first time in its fiber network segment, Cellcard aims to enhance residential broadband performance, enabling users to engage in high-bandwidth applications such as gaming while simultaneously improving network efficiency through automation.

Ajay Sharma, Head of South-East Asia North Sales, Network Infrastructure at Nokia, reiterated the company’s dedication to assisting service providers in transitioning to XGS-PON and network automation. He noted that as global demand for 10Gb/s services rises, operators must focus on improving network utilization and operational efficiencies.
