BT to add 1,300 new apprenticeship and graduate jobs

free-wi-fi-from-btBritish telecom operator BT will be adding more than 1,300 new apprenticeship and graduate jobs in the UK.

Vodafone earlier said it will expand its existing graduate, apprenticeship, internship and work experience schemes worldwide to up to 100,000 young people by 2022.

BT will employ apprentices and graduates in job roles such as TV production, engineering, customer service, and in cyber-security.

Gavin Patterson, chief executive of BT, said: “BT has a rich history of innovation, and it’s an incredibly exciting time to be joining the company as we look towards growing our cyber-security business, developing 5G technologies and enhanced TV content.”

BT uses virtual reality technology for recruiting the best graduates.

Openreach, a BT Group company, last week said it will be recruiting 3,500 engineers.

BT Group has 82,800 employees in the UK. The new roles, which include those within EE and Plusnet, are spread across a number of locations including London, Glasgow, Belfast, Warrington, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

New apprentices and graduates will be working at BT’s labs at Adastral Park, near Ipswich, in Suffolk. This research centre is playing a role in the development of artificial intelligence, ultrafast broadband and 5G technologies.
