Telefonica revenue dips 12% despite offering 5G in core markets

Telefonica said its revenues fell 12 percent to €10.461 billion in July-September quarter of 2020 despite launching 5G in 4 core markets.
Telefonica’s 5G network in SpainTelefonica’s Spain business unit accounted for 29 percent of total revenues in the first nine months, registering €9.209 billion.

Telefonica’s Brazil business unit contributed 18 percent of total revenue, with revenue touching €5.674 billion.

Telefonica’s Germany business unit’s revenue represented 17 percent, touching €5.509 billion.

Telefonica’s O2 business in United Kingdom represented 15 percent, with €4.966 billion. Hispam represented 19 percent, with revenue touching €5.988 billion.

Telefonica said it is making progress with the UK operation to create a leading converged operator thanks to the O2/Virgin Media merger.

Telefonica’s 5G networks are available in four core markets such as Brazil, Spain, Germany and the UK.

The ultra-broadband network (UBB) increased to 133.1 million homes passed, two million more compared to June and six million more y-o-y.

Telefonica Brazil has covered 14.6 million homes with fibre to the home (FTTH), +43.3 percent y-o-y. Also in Brazil, more than 3 million accesses were connected to the FTTH for the first time.

Spain’s FTHH reached 24.44 million homes, almost 800,000 more than last quarter, proving the quality of this differential broadband infrastructure.

Telefonica’s total accesses base stood at 341.5 million at September 2020, up from 337.3 million in June 2020.
