Altice Portugal selects Huawei for 5G network

Huawei has won a 5G equipment deal from Altice Portugal for the implementation of 5G services in Portugal.
Huawei 5G for innovationAltice Portugal and Huawei will explore potential new and innovative applications using 5G technology in a live testing network environment.

This partnership represents a key step in the process towards Altice PT’s plans to prepare for a commercial launch of 5G service in Portugal next year.

Altice PT’s services will use Huawei equipment and software as a natural evolution of the already existing 4G network footprint in Portugal.

Altice PT and Huawei first explored 5G services in Portugal with a network training program in 2016, Huawei Portugal CEO Chris Lu said.

Altice Portugal CEO Alexandre Fonseca said: “We are delighted to partner with Huawei to further drive forward the development of 5G services in Portugal”.

Meanwhile, Huawei said it has become the first company to complete a 5G SA functional and performance test of 5G LampSite. The SA testing took place in the third-phase of China 5G technology R&D tests organized by the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group.

The results demonstrated a peak downlink rate of above 1.8 Gbit/s on the C band with a bandwidth of 100 MHz. This is the first time in the industry that indoor coverage tests have been performed for 5G SA based on the 3GPP Release 15 specifications.

Intel and Huawei have completed 2.6GHz 5G NR Interoperability and Development Testing (IoDT) based on the 3GPP Release 15 global standard September version. The IoDT test is the world’s first 2.6GHz 5G interoperability test under SA network and is a key milestone towards accelerating the maturity of the 2.6GHz 5G NR ecosystem.
