TRAI consultation aims to fix quality of calls for VoLTE users

LTE subscriber base in IndiaTRAI has issued a consultation paper – aiming to fix quality issues on voice services to LTE users including VoLTE and CS Fallback.

India has 200 million subscribers on LTE network. Main operators are Reliance Jio, Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone.

Reliance Jio introduced VoLTE in India in September 2016. Many operators providing LTE coverage have yet to offer VoLTE. 4G operators will offer VoLTE in phased manner instead of pan India launch.

TRAI has issued the consultation paper indicating that majority of Indian 4G subscribers are facing voice quality issues on their 4G smartphones. In fact, some operators are in the process of shifting their 3G network to 4G to focus on data revenue.

Interestingly, 4G operators say they offer HD quality voice services to all their 4G customers without any disturbance on their strong data networks.
