AT&T and Verizon network speeds slowed, T-Mobile leads

T-Mobile Fastest NetworkT-Mobile’s network speed has increased, while AT&T and Verizon network speeds have slowed down as a result of unlimited data, according to Ookla, makers of Speedtest.

Verizon and AT&T launched unlimited data plan in February, and their customers noticed drop in data speeds on their networks.

The LTE network speed of AT&T, according to Ookla, was 22.7 Mbps. The LTE network speed of Verizon was 23.4 Mbps. T-Mobile users had an Internet speed of 29 Mbps on its LTE network.

Verizon recently capped video speeds.

“Millions of wireless customers across the US have shown that T-Mobile is the master of all things unlimited, while Verizon is the master of none,” said Neville Ray, chief technology officer for T-Mobile.

The report is based more than 14 million tests from real customers. Speedtest gathers data directly from of wireless customers across all networks. Customers use the Speedtest app on their own smartphones.

T-Mobile alleges that Verizon pays consultants to conduct controlled simulations for a fraction of the number of tests using only one phone model for one moment in time in prescribed locations along finite drive routes, mostly outdoors.

Since 2015, T-Mobile doubled its LTE coverage and now covers 315 million people and will expand LTE coverage to 321 million people.
