LTE networks in India achieved 5X growth in traffic in the first half of 2016, but overall share is still at 23 percent. Most of the data traffic is over HSPA or 3G, said a report.

70 percent of API responses are smaller than 10 KB and 25KB, according to the State of Mobile performance H1 2016 report prepared by Twin Prime, a provider of mobile data delivery optimization software.

Airtel maintains its dominance as India’s fastest and highest quality carrier across 2G, 3G, HSPA and LTE.

Reliance Jio emerges as a valid LTE competitor to Airtel. While it is not performing as fast as Airtel, it is second best in quality, the experience is more consistence and the coverage much better. The report is for the first half of 2016. Reliance Jio officially launched 4G services on 5 September and now have more than 50 billion 4G subscribers.

Contrary to 2015, LTE is now much faster than WiFi across almost all cities in India. Even in Mumbai where Wifi was 3X faster. LTE has now caught up.

There are no differences in performance between Tier 1 cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru and Tier 2 cities like Jaipur and Pune.

Android is 35 percent faster than IOS for both LTE and WiFi.

LTE is the most variable network of all. Fast speeds on LTE are 2.7 times bigger than the median.

Optimal image size for guaranteed delivery under 200ms is 12.5KB over 3G and 13.5KB over LTE.

For the State of Mobile Performance H1 report, Twin Prime analyzed over 6 billion data points collection from 600 apps with traffic across US, India, Europe and South East Asia. The company tracked more than 1500 different network operators to measure their performance over 2G, 3G, HSPA, HSPA-Plus, LTE and WiFi.
