Jio says rival telecoms do not provide interconnection capacity

Reliance Jio Digital LifeReliance Jio Infocomm today said rival telecom operators Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular are not providing enough new interconnection capacity.

Reliance Jio requires 4,000 – 5,000 E1s operational interconnection capacity per telecom operator for the three incumbent operators.

“At the current rate, the incumbent operators have not demonstrated any real intent to resolve this issue,” said Reliance Jio in a statement.

Reliance Jio customers are facing more than 10 crore call failures per day between RJIL and the three incumbent operators. “This has resulted in severe quality of service issues for the Indian customers. The call failure rate has been worsening rapidly in the last few days, while augmentation of interconnection capacity is still awaited,” said Jio.

The denial of requisite PoI’s is in violation of the license conditions and TRAI regulations on quality of service (QoS) by the incumbent operators. The move to not provide sufficient interconnection capacity, as is apparent from the above numbers, is aimed at hindering Jio’s entry into the telecom sector and is depriving Indian customers from enjoying superior HD voice services being offered by Jio.

Considering the current working E1s, including the proposed enhancement by the operators, would still be far lesser than what is required to meet QoS parameters, more concrete action is warranted from the incumbent operators.

Jio said rival telecom operators are not supporting their mobile subscribers when they are opting for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in order to join Jio.

“Most of the porting requests to the three operators are still getting rejected for unsubstantiated reasons,” said Jio.
