Comcast Business to invest $9 mn for fiber expansion

Comcast investmentComcast Business has recently revealed its plans to invest more than $9 million over the next year for a major expansion of its fiber-based network in areas spanning the Virginia region, reaching more than 3,000 businesses.

The investment will provide US businesses and government organizations with the option of a high-performance Ethernet, Internet and advanced voice solutions in parts of budding economies like the Capitol District, Scott’s Addition and the Museum District.

Comcast Business Ethernet services spans over an advanced network that covers distances of 140,000 miles in the country. The Ethernet division of the company currently serves schools, businesses, hospitals and such organizations having more bandwidth requirement and also the need to interlink multiple sites or branch locations to their other subsidiaries.

Providing a capacity as good as 100 Gigabits-per-second (Gbps), additional network expansions under this project include Glen Allen outside of Richmond, Sterling near Dulles Airport, Manassas, Fredericksburg, and parts of Southwest Virginia, including Lynchburg, Salem and Roanoke County within the existing company landscape.

“The investments Comcast continues to make in Virginia’s technological infrastructure play a key role in maintaining our competitive business climate in a 21st-century economy,” said Virginia Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson.

Comcast, with a current value of $152.44 billion, is also the first service provider universally, offering Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) CE 2.0 certified Ethernet services alongside achieve all three of the previous CE 1.0 certifications. With quarterly earnings of $19.11 billion, the estimated increase in this quarter is 1.97 percent over the same in 2015.
