Gridline Announces Implementation of Pilot Smart Meter/Consumer Broadband Services in the Village of Shap, Cumbria County, U.K.

Gridline Communications announced that they have begun deployment of a Broadband over Power Line pilot project for consumer broadband and smart meter services in the community of Shap, Cumbria County, U.K. The pilot program is in partnership with Electricity Northwest, Cable and Wireless Worldwide, and T-Systems U.K.

The purpose of the pilot is to demonstrate viability of both consumer broadband services and smart meter operations within a deep rural environment. Full deployment of the pilot is expected to be completed by the end of June 2011. Once completed and validated, the partnership expects to move to a full deployment model addressing approximately 2.5M meters/structures throughout the Electricity Northwest power grid.

Gridline Communications focuses on dual function (Smart Grid and Consumer broadband) network deployment using proven Broadband over Power Line (BPL) and other appropriate communications technologies, coupled with proprietary Intellectual Properties, to provide high speed broadband connectivity and a variety of market driven applications.
