Axiata reveals investment strategies for 2016

Axiata investment in Q4 2015Telecom network operator Axiata Group today announced its investment plan and strategies for 2016.

The Malaysian telecom major will be making an investment of RM5.7 billion or $1.36 billion during the current year towards Capex to spruce up its mobile networks against RM4.9 billion investment in 2015.

As a result of its investment in mobile data networks, data revenue grew 29.8 percent in 2015, said Axiata.

Axiata said its Capex was RM 891 million in Celcom network, RM1,784 million in XL, RM639 million in Dialog, RM1,107 million in Robi, RM275 million in Smart and RM184 million in other areas.

Revenue of Axiata Group rose 6.3 percent to RM19.9 billion, while EBITDA rose 4.1 percent to RM7.3 billion with an EBITDA margin of 36.6 percent.

Axiata Group’s 29.8 percent data growth was driven mainly by Smart, Robi6 and Dialog registering 86.2 percent, 78.9 percent and 62.7 percent growth, respectively.

Axiata Chairman Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said: “Given difficult economic and currency conditions globally, 2015 was a challenging year operationally, particularly for a regional company such as Axiata.”
