MWC 2016: Nokia focuses on telecom network solutions, 5G, IoT

Nokia
Telecom network major Nokia will present its latest solutions for telecoms at the MWC 2016 along with the recently acquired Alcatel-Lucent.

While Nokia has already started sending information on its latest solutions being demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress, Alcatel-Lucent stopped all activities in line with the completion of its nearly $17 billion takeover by Nokia.

At the MWC 2016, Nokia demonstrates its Internet of Things (IoT) applications, platforms, security solutions, connectivity solutions and services across industry verticals.

Nokia launches IoT Community that targets open collaboration around business models for application developers and device vendors. Nokia supports all three radio technologies included in GSMA’s Mobile IoT Initiative: NB-IoT, EC-GSM and eMTC.

At the display, Nokia has its new 1830 Versatile WDM Module (VWM) mobile fronthaul solution that allows telecom operators to accelerate the deployment of centralized RAN architectures to manage consumer demand for video streaming and HD movies on mobile devices, as well as traffic demand from IoT-connected objects.

In centralized RAN architectures, baseband processing is separated from RF equipment such as remote radio heads (RRHs) and run in a single location, allowing faster mobile broadband, increased capacity and lower operating costs.

Nokia is showing how 5G applications run on its network infrastructure as operators explore the new business opportunities of an increasingly connected world.

Nokia AVA is a cloud-based platform that combines big data storage, intelligent analytics and extreme automation, allowing operators to move away from traditional reactive network operations to a cognitive approach that predicts faults and solves them rapidly. This will prepare operator networks for the future demands of the programmable world.

Nokia is introducing two separate analytics capabilities for operators to ensure the proper network capacity to support new services and maintain the highest quality IPTV service.

Nokia has launched the NetGuard Security Management Center, a security solution. The NetGuard Security Management Center software platform allows operator to monitor and control the multi-vendor security systems deployed across its telecommunications network.

In addition, Nokia will showcase LTE Advanced and LTE-Advanced Pro innovations at Mobile World Congress 2016. The demonstrations include 3D Beamforming and 8×4 Intelligent Beamforming, inter-site carrier aggregation capabilities, and carrier aggregation combined with advanced modulation to triple uplink data rates.
